The official broadcasters of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 released the official poster of the tournament, featuring some star players of participating teams. The poster has the image of former Indian skipper and batting superstar, Virat Kohli, alongside Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hassan and Afghanistan star Rashid Khan.
The tournament will kick off on August 3o with an inaugural match between hosts Pakistan and new entrants Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. The arch-rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns with each other on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
The group stage of the tournament is divided into two groups, namely A and B. Group A consists of India, Pakistan and Nepal. Whereas the co-hosts Sri Lanka are placed in Group B along with Afghanistan and Bangladesh. This edition of the continental tournament will be played in 50-over format once again considering the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Kohli was with the Indian squad in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against West Indies. But unfortunately, fans could not see Kohli bat in all three matches. He was a part of the playing XI in the first ODI but did not come to bat as he, alongside skipper Rohit, decided to push himself down the order. Later, he was rested by team management from the playing XI of the second and third ODI against the Caribbean side.
Coming back to the Asia Cup 2023 poster, it attracted a lot of contrasting emotions and reactions on social media. Some cricket fans took to Twitter to share their opinions; some of the cricket fans also questioned if Rohit and Hardik are captain or vice-captain, then why Kohli is there on the poster. Apart from this, a few others said that it was all for commercial purposes.
