On 23 October 2022, India took on Pakitan in Melbourne in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. Fans were eagerly waiting for the clash. However, Melbourne’s weather in recent days was the talk of the town. But, the rain did not threaten the match as it kicked off at the scheduled time only.

Speaking about the teams, India were coming off after winning two home T20I series against Australia and South Africa. While Pakistan won a T20I tri-series in New Zealand before tasting a defeat against England in the warm-up. So, the stage was set for an enthralling battle as India were looking to do well after losing against Pakistan in the last 20-20 World Cup.

India defeated Pakistan by four wickets in the first match of the 20-20 World Cup 

Speaking about the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and he choose to bowl first. For Pakistan, skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan came out to bat. But, Babar Azam had a short stay at the crease as he got out for a golden duck. Arshdeep Singh took the wickets of both the openers within the first six overs. Then, Iftikhar Ahmed scoed 51 runs off 34 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Along with him, Shan Masood also scored 52* runs off 42 balls, including five fours. Thus, Pakistan scored 159 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For India, both Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya took three wickets each.

In reply, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to open the innings. But, Pakistan bowlers were in a different mood as India lost their four wickets in seven overs of the innings. Then, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya tried to stable the innings. In 16 overs, India scored 106 runs for four wickets. Virat Kohli managed a fifty in the match. In the last over, India required 16 runs. But, the Men in Blue kept their calm and managed to win the thriller by four wickets.
