Having beaten the arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening encounter, team India marched on in the Asia Cup 2022 with a game against Hong Kong on Wednesday. The toss went Hong Kong’s way and captain Nizakat Khan invited India to bat first. The Indian openers KL Rahul and captain Rohit Sharma walked out to the middle to put an improved performance than their dismal show in the opening game.

The Indian skipper looked in fine touch as he was able to score some boundaries early on. However, KL Rahul didn’t look at his best as he failed to find the middle of the bat on most occasions. While Sharma was scoring boundaries at one end, Rahul was playing dot balls which mounted the pressure on his opening partner. Sharma finally gave in to pressure as he got out trying to up the ante.

Virat Kohli came out to the pitch and looked like a completely different batter than in the first game. Meanwhile, Rahul’s struggle continued at the other hand which finally ended at the score of 94 after 13 overs. Rahul’s dismissal brought Suryakumar Yadav at the crease who came with a clear intent of giving impetus to the Indian innings.

Both the batter took their time early on and unleashed their beast mode in the final few years. SKY was in red-hot form as he plundered ‘sky-high’ sixes all around the ground. Kohli also returned to form and notched up his half-century. A brilliant finish at the end by these two propelled India’s total to 192 in their allotted 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was the top scorer for India, scoring an unbeaten 68 off 26 balls.

In reply to India’s total, Hong Kong lost a wicket in the second over itself as Arshdeep Singh removed Yasim Murtaza. The new batter Babar Hayat came to the crease showing clear intent of scoring runs.

He managed to score 41 off 35 balls as he fell prey to Ravindra Jadeja at the score of 74 after 11.1 overs. The Hong Kong team were falling behind the required run rate and weren’t making any attempt to counter that.

After 12 overs, there wasn’t much left in the game. They did manage to score some boundaries at the end, but it was all too late. India registered a comfortable win by 40 runs and qualified for the 'Super 4' stage.

The match between Pakistan and Hong Kong will decide which other team will qualify for the next stage from Group A. Twitter was flooded with people celebrating India's victory. Here are some of the best Tweets:
