Gujarat beat Rajasthan by seven wickets in the first Qualifier of the Indian T20 League 2022. After Rajasthan had great results with the bat, Gujarat were given a huge target of 189. The league debutants batted sensibly to seal the game. With this win, Gujarat booked a seat in the finals, and Rajasthan will now have to play in the second Qualifier.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first at the Eden Gardens. Batting first, Rajasthan lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (three) in the second over, but Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler did well for the team. The Skipper was playing the attacking game, but Buttler was struggling to get going. They added 68 runs in the partnership, with Samson scoring 47 of those. Sai Kishore got the breakthrough, and dismissed Samson for a team score of 79 in 10 overs.

Devdutt Padikkal then played a quick cameo of 28 runs to keep the run-rate high. In the meantime, Buttler got some luck in his innings as he was dropped a few times. After which, he found his rhythm. He raced to his half-century and accelerated to get some quick. He scored 89 runs in 56 balls. In the end, Rajasthan lost a few wickets but managed 189 runs on the board. In the chase, Gujarat also lost an early wicket. However, they then got to a quick start.

Shubman Gill (35) and Matthew Wade (35) kept the run rate maintained and scored 64 runs in the powerplay. However, shortly after that, both were dismissed for a team score of 85 runs within the 10th over. Hardik Pandya and David Miller then steadied the ship as they formed a crucial partnership. They kept scoring the odd boundaries as well. The equation then came down to 43 runs in the last four overs. Gujarat added 20 runs in the next two overs.

Obed McCoy bowled well in the 19th over, allowing only seven runs. Gujarat needed 16 runs in the last over. Miller then held his nerves to hit three sixes in three balls to get the team through.  The two had a partnership of 104 runs, with Miller scoring 68 runs in 38 balls and Pandya scoring 40 runs in 27 balls.
