The IPL 2020 witnessed the Mumbai Indians win the title for a record 5th time. It also witnessed CSK failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in the team's history. With the two juggernauts finishing in completely opposite positions this season, it is likely that the team’s management has something to ponder upon. The Chennai Super Kings will look to identify loopholes in the team. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, will identify areas to improve even more the quality of the squad.
The IPL 2021 auction is set to be conducted on April-May 2021. BCCI will select a final date by December 2020. We might also get to witness the inclusion of a new IPL team next season. Both teams will offload some players next season, who failed to deliver as per expectations.
Here is a list of players that might be offloaded from both teams next season:
Chennai Super Kings
Kedhar Jadhav
Kedhar Jadhav might be a player to see the exit door next year. Jadhav managed to score only 62 runs in 8 matches, finishing with a below-average strike rate of 93.93. His highest score was just 26, which clearly indicates why CSK might release him next season.
Dwayne Bravo
There have been rumors indicating that Dwayne Bravo might not feature in IPL 2021. He has been on the injury list almost the entire season, playing only 6 games and taking just 6 wickets all season.
Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina
Both Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina have not extended their contracts, and both are unlikely to feature for the Chennai Super Kings next season.
Mumbai Indians
Nathan Coulter Nile
The Australian fast-paced bowler delivered way below expectations, given his 8 Cr price tag seeming too overvalued. He only managed to bag 5 wickets in 7 games, which shows why he might be released next season.
Sherfane Rutherford
Mumbai Indians acquired Rutherford from Delhi Capitals in return for Mayank Markande. However, the Guyanese cricketer failed to make a single appearance for the team the entire season, clearly depicting why it is likely that he will be released next season.
Mitchell McClenaghan
Just like Sherfane Rutherford, Mitchell McClenaghan failed to mark a single appearance for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. With McClenaghan having taken 71 wickets in 56 games throughout his career, it is clearly evident that the current IPL champions want to part ways with him, and that he will be on top of the release player list next season.
