Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik stated that playing the next two ICC T20 World Cups is his primary objective. Regarded as one of the most experienced batsmen in the white-ball format, Dinesh Karthik last featured for Team India in the 2019 ICC World Cup. Since then, the wicket-keeper batsman has remained keen on staging his international comeback by plying his trade in the IPL.
Besides the IPL, the dynamic Indian batsman has been an integral part of the Tamil Nadu side across all domestic competitions. The seasoned cricketer has expressed his desire to represent India at the grandest stages. The 35-year-old wishes to play in the 2021 T20 World Cup, which will be held in India.
Dinesh Karthik's performance in the Indian Premier League
Dinesh Karthik, who made his T20I debut against South Africa in 2006, last represented India two years ago. His unbeaten 8 off 3 balls against Australia during the 2019 season remains his last T20I outing for India in the shortest format of the game. Talking about his impressive form in domestic cricket, Karthik demonstrated his success with the Tamil Nadu team in recent years.
The veteran also spoke about Tamil Nadu's spectacular run in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. The team won the competition as they defeated Baroda in the final.
Dinesh Karthik didn't have a great IPL season last year in UAE. The wicket-keeper batsman also stepped down as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders midway through the season. The 35-year-old managed to score only 169 runs in 14 games with a high score of 58.
Dinesh Karthik will be seen in action in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. He is hugely proficient in IPL cricket and has so far played 196 matches in the league. The Kolkata Knight Riders cricketer is all set to become the third cricketer to feature in 200 IPL games. If the batsman can produce a good performance with the willow in the 2021 IPL edition, he might once again make his way in the Indian team. So far in his international career, Dinesh Karthik has represented India in 32 T20 games and scored 399 runs.
