Kolkata made a dramatic turnaround in the second half of the tournament in the last year’s Indian T20 League edition. They exhibited sensational performances and went on to reach the final. Prior to the start of the second half of the tournament, they were languishing at second from the bottom of the table, and, perhaps, not a lot of people had expected them to play the final against Chennai.

However, chances of that happening are highly unlikely this season. Kolkata have had a forgettable outing in the ongoing edition of the tournament. After making an outstanding start, they went on to lose five consecutive matches.

Shreyas Iyer and Co. are currently languishing at number seven on the table, having managed to secure 5 wins in 12 matches. They, however, showcased a pretty good performance in the last match against Mumbai.

Riding on valuable knocks of Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana, Kolkata managed to score 165 runs in the first innings. They bowled exceedingly well in the second innings and bundled out Mumbai for just 113 runs.

Following a 52-run, skipper Shreyas Iyer made a staggering revelation, which left the fans in disbelief. At the post-match presentation, Iyer revealed that the franchise’s CEO also takes part in team selection, something which the previous captains never said it on air.

“It is really difficult (to tell players about axings). Coach and at times, the CEO is also obviously involved in team selections. Every player takes it well, and they have put in their best efforts,” Iyer said. The Kolkata fans were left in disbelief and some of them even urged the CEO to leave the franchise. Here’s a look at the reactions:

Notably, ahead of the match against Mumbai, Kolkata’s management made as many as five chances in the playing XI. The likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Pat Cummins, Sheldon Jackson and Ajinkya Rahane make their way back into the playing XI. Kolkata are slated to play their next game against Hyderabad on Saturday at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Following Iyer's revelations, fans lash out at Kolkata's CEO and some of them even asked him to leave the franchise. Here's a look at the reactions:
