A country like India has many venues to host International Cricket matches. Stadiums like the Wankhede and Chinnaswamy have their charm, but a couple of new venues have come up in recent years. The HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala is one such venue. The newly built Motera Stadium is now the world's largest cricket stadium. In the same way, other international matches will also be played at the new stadium in Pondicherry

Pondicherry Cricket Association inscribes a letter to BCCI

A CAP official recently revealed that the body had requested them as a potential venue for international matches in the future. The association has written to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to consider that Pondicherry can host international games in the future.

The authority said that the venue is ready to host any World Cup games if given a chance. With this, the smaller venues can grow in the upcoming years. The Pondicherry association became a member of the BCCI two years back. Since then the progress has seen new teams take part in multiple tournaments.

A report regarding this disclosed that P Damodaran would reiterate the intention to host international matches in Pondicherry. He is going to represent CAP at the BCCI AGM meeting that is taking place on December 24, 2020.

What facilities will be available in the stadium?

The CAP spokesperson while requesting to BCCI expressed their desire to host the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He further explained that the body is efficient enough to reserve teams of two zones in 4-star hotels for at least five months. They can also offer six newly established cricket grounds for the same.

The CAP website also gave an insight into the facilities that they will offer if they will get a chance to host cricket matches in the future. The Siechem Stadium in Pondicherry has a seating capacity of 5,000. However, the venue has captivated a few controversies lately.

As per the reports, the association was to demolish something that was illegal at the cricket stadium by the planning authority. Based on records, the body was on the verge of demolition because of illegal construction. As a result of which the stadium's power supply to be cut.

In the end, the Cricket Association denied all accusations of illegal construction. Secretary V. Chandran in a statement said that the association had done no encroaching or trespassing.
