Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha credited Sourav Ganguly for fostering 5-6 players of the 2011 ODI World Cup team. April 2, 2011, marked the anniversary of India’s famous World Cup victory which came 28 years after they won their first tournament in 1983. Thus, on Friday (April 2, 2021), the entire country was reliving the grand moment on the 10th anniversary of the national team's historic achievement, which happened in front of the home crowd. It was an emotional moment for all the former Indian players and fans as they became nostalgic, remembering the epic occasion. What made the moment more dewy-eyed was that it came under MS Dhoni, arguably India's most successful captain.
In 2011, the Indian cricket team became the first-ever host country to lift the trophy after chasing a mighty total of 275. It was the highest chase in a World Cup final, and India won the match by six wickets. While the top performers were Gambhir (97) and Dhoni (91 not out), it was a whole team effort in a gruelling competition held in the subcontinent.

Sourav Ganguly, who led the team in the 2003 World Cup, also played a crucial role in India's 2011 win as it was under him that the likes of Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni were nurtured and prepared for the future.
