The 2021-22 Premier League season had a dramatic finish as Manchester City were crowned Champions on the final day after finishing one point ahead of Liverpool. City will once again have its eyes set on the trophy as they take the field to defend its title in the upcoming 2022-23 season. Liverpool will be looking to avenge their loss in the finals while there will be other contenders for the trophy as well.

Here’s looking at the top five contenders for the Premier League 2022-23:

5. Manchester United

After having a disastrous season where they finished sixth in the place, United are hopeful of enjoying a positive new era under Erik ten Hag. There is much work to do at Old Trafford, however, with the squad in need of a complete overhaul.

United have added the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, and Tyrell Malacia this offseason and could be in play for a few more arrivals. A title charge would appear quite optimistic at present but experts have placed United as fifth favourites. The new manager bump could provide an early boost if the season starts positively.

4. Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel's side had to deal with much uncertainty in the second half of last season, as owner Roman Abramovich eventually left the club. Todd Boehly is now at the helm and Chelsea will be looking to put more pressure on City and Liverpool after finishing third last season.

Chelsea replaced the departing Romelu Lukaku with Raheem Sterling, and Kalidiou Koulibaly arrived to being the defensive retool, but there are many holes still on the Chelsea roster, and a number of players have expressed a desire to leave.

Tuchel has some talented players at his disposal but further additions are needed if Chelsea is to seriously challenge for the title.

3. Tottenham

It is well-known fact that Tottenham hasn't won the league since 1961, but there is a real feeling of optimism surrounding the club under Antonio Conte.

With stars of the calibre of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, Tottenham is capable of causing major problems for defences, while the arrival of Yves Bissouma provides them with extra quality in midfield and Ivan Perisic brings much in the way of experience. A big-money swoop for Richarlison was an even bigger boon, and Conte now boasts a wealth of attacking talent.

Conte managed to secure a top-four finish for Tottenham at the expense of rivals Arsenal last season and now his aim will be to push on even further.

2. Liverpool

Liverpool missed out on winning the quadruple last season and had to settle for winning the FA Cup and the League Cup, so they will be especially determined to win the league in 2022/23.

The departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich is a blow, but Klopp will hope new signing Darwin Nunez settles quickly, just like Luis Diaz did last season.

Liverpool has not yet bolstered the midfield, which is certainly a concern, but the German boss should have this squad within shouting distance of another title challenge.

1. Manchester City

Champions in four of the last five seasons, City are unsurprisingly installed as favourites to win the title again.

The addition of Erling Haaland will help their cause, although Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have both departed as a result.

City also brought in Kalvin Phillips to aid the midfield, and Julian Alvarez will provide a further attacking boost.

It will certainly take something special to stop City from winning the league again.
