England won the third Test against New Zealand, and they changed the course of English Test cricket with the win. They whitewashed the Black Caps in the three-match series. Not their victory, but their attitude to the game, has been the most talked about in the cricketing fraternity. With batters batting like a T20I game, England asserted dominance throughout the Test series.

Captain Ben Stokes rightfully said a few days ago that England is in the entertainment business and not the sporting business. Their approach to every Test match is to win rather than lose. The team was successfully able to do that this time around.

The New Zealand team scored 329 runs in the third test, with Daryl Mitchell once again outperforming everyone else. He scored 109 runs in 228 balls, taking his tally to three centuries in the series. To Blundell also gave him some support, scoring 55 runs in 122 balls. Jack Leech was at the top of his game as he picked up a five-wicket haul.

England then lost early wickets as Trent Boult was at the top of his game. He cleaned up the top three batters and Tim Southe got the fourth wicket in England's first innings. However, Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton got the team back into the game as they scored 241 runs for the seventh wicket partnership. Bairstow scored 162 runs, while Overton fell three runs short of his century. The two helped England score 360 runs, and take a 31-run lead.

In their next batting innings, the Kiwis put up a few excellent partnerships. Tom Latham (76), Kane Williamson (48), Daryl Mitchell (56), and Tom Blundell (88) all delivered outstanding performances to put the squad in a strong position. In their second innings, New Zealand scored 326 runs. Leech once again took a five-wicket haul.

In the chase of 296 runs, England lost two early wickets, but Joe Root (86) and Ollie Pope (82) stitched a great partnership of 134 runs. Bairstow (71) then came in early on the final day to quickly complete the chase. In the end, England comfortably won the match by seven wickets.
