Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw added one more feather in his flourishing cricket career. The young batsman single-handedly won the match for Delhi Capitals. DC romped home with a seven-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders. Prithvi Shaw scored 82 runs off just 41 deliveries in a knock that included 11 fours and three sixes. The 21-year-old batsman had suffered a lean patch in the previous IPL season. Prithvi Shaw was dropped from DC's playing eleven after a string of low scores in UAE. He was also omitted from India's Test squad after scoring 0 and 4 in the first Test in Adelaide. After working on his technique, the youngster scored 827 runs in 8 games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Prithvi Shaw notched up the quickest fifty of the season in just 18 balls

Delhi Capitals won the toss and asked Eoin Morgan & the team to open the batting. Kolkata Knight Riders managed to post a decent score of 154/6. However, the total was single-handedly demolished by Prithvi Shaw. The young batsman lit up the chase with six successive boundaries in the opening over of Shivam Mavi. Shaw notched up the quickest fifty of the season in just 18 balls. He became only the second cricketer in IPL history to hit six consecutive boundaries.

Rahane had earlier hit 6 boundaries against Royal Challengers Bangalore back in 2012. Prithvi Shaw also became the first cricketer to smash 24 runs in the first over of an IPL match. Naman Ojha (21) and Sunil Narine (21) previously held the record for scoring the most runs in the first over of the game.

Talking about the match, the run-chase started with a bang as DC opening batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan forged a crucial partnership. The duo added 128 runs for the first wicket. Shikhar Dhawan kept a calm head at the other end as the batsman played the supporting role. Earlier, KKR batters battled to keep going as they set a modest score of 155 for DC to chase. Andre Russell (45* off 27 balls) finished the match with some massive sixes and helped KKR surpass the 150-run mark on the last ball of the innings. This was KKR's fifth loss of the season in seven matches. On the other hand, DC registered their fifth victory this season to obtain a second place in the points table.
