Veteran Indian batsman VVS Laxman wants young batsman Prithvi Shaw to play all six matches against Sri Lanka. A young bunch of Indian cricketers is set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Sri Lanka. The series is scheduled to start on the 13th of July. In a recent discussion with Star Sports, VVS Laxman praised Shaw and stated that there is no doubt about his ability.

VVS Laxman would like to see Prithvi Shaw open in all the games. Shaw has featured in 5 ODIs so far, the last of which was against New Zealand in February last year. The young opening batsman is yet to make his T20I debut. There are several other youngsters in the squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, with Shikhar Dhawan appointed as captain.

It will be an essential opportunity for Prithvi Shaw to prove himself: VVS Laxman

Young cricketers like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal are also in contention to open for the ODI matches. Nitish Rana and Ishan Kishan could be considered for the shortest format of the game.

Talking about Prithvi Shaw’s performance in the IPL, the 21-year-old looked in good form. He smashed the bowlers all around the park, with Shikhar Dhawan being his opening mate for Delhi Capitals. After being dropped during the tour of Australia, VVS Laxman emphasized that it will be an important opportunity for Prithvi Shaw to prove himself.

Prithvi Shaw smashed a tournament-record 827 runs in the eight games he played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also helped Mumbai clinch yet another VHT title after defeating Uttar Pradesh in the final match. Shaw was also the fourth-highest run-scorer in the Orange Cap race with 308 runs. The 14th IPL season was suspended earlier this year due to the COVID-19 situation in India.
