Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Jayant Yadav to join India squad in England as replacements – Reports

Suryakumar Yadav has received his maiden Test call up while Prithvi Shaw and Jayant Yadav have been recalled in the Indian Test squad as replacements for Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan, who were ruled out due to injuries.

While Shubman Gill suffered shin splints during the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar picked up injuries while playing for County XI in the warm-up game against India. Both Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are currently in Sri Lanka and had wonderful outings in the ODIs.

“Yes, Prithvi, Surya and Jayant will be flying to England. Whether they will fly in the middle of the T20 Internationals (Prithvi and Surya are part of team in Sri Lanka) or post that is being worked out.

“But yes, these three are our replacement players for Test series in England. They might just leave after the three T20 Internationals but we will get a confirmation in another three days,” a senior official was quoted by Indian Express

The marquee series kicks off in Nottingham on August 4. However, with all the quarantine restrictions in place, it is unlikely that the players will be available for the first Test. It is reported that India is not happy with the form of Mayank Agarwal thus they wanted Prithvi Shaw as a backup opener while Suryakumar Yadav’s selection was done keeping in mind Ajinkya Rahane’s hamstring injury.
