The ninth season of the Pro Kabaddi League kicked off on 7 October 2022. However, Tamil Thalaivas started their journey in this year’s tournament on 8 October 2022. They locked horns with Gujarat Giants. Pawan Kumar Sehrawat was in the headlines as he was in action for his new team, Tamil Thalaivas.

But, their opening game did not go as per their plan. Firstly, they drew the match, and their talisman, Pawan Sehrawat suffered an injury. He picked up a knee injury in the 10th minute of the first half. Therefore, it created a huge impact on the overall performance of the team in the rest of the game.

Pawan Sehrawat became the highest-ever buy in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League

Ahead of this season, Pawan Sehrawat became the highest-ever buy in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. Tamil Thalaivas bought him for a whopping amount of Rs 2.26 crore. Previously he played for the Bengaluru Bulls and Pawan has been the best raider for the last three years.

Speaking of the incident, Chandran Ranjit, the Gujarat Giants skipper, came on to raid. Sahil went after Chandran's upper body and Pawan went to attempt an ankle hold. But, during that attempt, Pawan twisted his knee. He collapsed on the mat as Pawan’s knee and ankle gave away. Meanwhile, medical staff rushed to him and they took away Pawan after strapping him onto a stretcher.

Speaking about his injury, the coach of Tamil Thalaivas, J. Udaya Kumar opened up after the match. He said: "He should be back in 2-3 days." However, there are reports that Pawan could spend a longer duration on the sidelines. Hence, it might be a huge blow for the team early in this season. Speaking of the match, it was the fifth match of this year which took place in Bengaluru. Having played and drawn only one game, Tamil Thalaivas are in the eighth position on the table. Their next match will be against Haryana Steelers on 11 October 2022.
