The newly formed Gujarat team is all set to kick off their Indian T20 League campaign against Lucknow on March 28. The Hardik Pandya-led team will be hoping to have a good first season. Gujarat, however, has already seen some issues before they begin their campaign. Jason Roy, who was expected to be in their playing XI, has backed out. He pulled out of the tournament citing bio-bubble fatigue. Here is the probable playing XI for the newly formed Gujarat team in their match against Lucknow.
Top Order
Shubman Gill- Shubman Gill was a great pick for the team from the draft of released players. He has a great understanding of the sport and plays a smart game with confidence. He still needs to be a little more consistent with the bat so that the team can be sure of his place.
Matthew Wade- Gujarat's last-minute buy at the auction was Matthew Wade. The team no longer has the services of Jason Roy, which makes him very important. He can compliment Gill well as he is a very attacking player. Gill, in the meantime, can anchor the innings.
Abhinay Sadrangani- Hailing from Karnataka, Abhinav Sadrangani has very little experience at the bigger stage. He did well for his domestic team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which has earned him a spot in the team. He will have to be consistent to keep his position intact.
Middle Order
Vijay Shankar- The white-ball captain of the Tamil Nadu team, Vijay Shankar, has seen highs in his career recently. He guided the team to a win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win, and the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Gujarat will expect no less from him this season.
Hardik Pandya- Hardik Pandya has been a great all-rounder for Mumbai. The all-rounder skipper will have to live up to the standards he set while playing for Mumbai. He is a great performer but his bowling still remains a question mark.
David Miller- David Miller's ITL stint has been full of ups and downs. He either goes all-out and scores big runs or he performs poorly. He will have to be a lot more consistent this time around to help the new team establish their authority in the tournament.
Rahul Tewatia- Rahul Tewatia became an overnight star when he hit five sixes in an over of Sheldon Cottrell. Apart from that, he has no major contribution. Gujarat paid him a huge sum this season and he will have to deliver accordingly.
Bowlers
Rashid Khan- Rashid Khan has been a great player in the Indian T20 League's history. He will have a huge responsibility to lead the bowling attack.
Mohammad Shami- Mohammad Shami is a very underrated T20 bowler but the team can progress a lot with his experience. The team will build their fast bowling attack around him, and will expect to get the best results from him.
Lockie Ferguson- The Kiwi bowler has great pace which can put the batters in a lot of trouble. He has a lot of experience as well, which will be very useful for the young team. However, Ferguson will have to get more wickets.
Varun Aaron- Varun Aaron has not played in the ITL for a while, but he has a lot of potential. He is very quick with the ball, which always comes in handy. All he needs to do is to be a little more consistent in the team to get the best results.
