The Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced that the sixth season of the Pakistan Super League will resume soon. The PCB has got all exemptions and permissions to stage the remaining games of the tournament in Abu Dhabi. The T20 competition was supposed to take place in February and March. However, it was suspended after several players and support staff contracted the COVID-19 virus despite being in the bio-bubble. The main reason behind the breach is not yet understood, but several reports claim that Wahab Riaz and Daren Sammy have violated the protocols.
The duo met their team owner, who was not part of the biosecure bubble. But they re-joined the squad following two negative COVID-19 tests. Wahab Riaz and Daren Sammy were permitted to re-join the Peshawar Zalmi team. The Pakistan Cricket Board accepted their appeal against breaching COVID-19 protocols. Despite this, multiple cricketers were seen mingling with the guests and fans who had attended the weddings and other functions at the hotel, which was booked for the players.
No one from the Peshawar Zalmi squad got infected: Daren Sammy
According to the protocols, Wahab and Sammy were supposed to be isolated for three days and had to return two negative COVID-19 tests to be allowed back in the bubble. However, the duo joined the franchise before the required period, and they also played all the games. Subsequently, all the cricket fans lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to ease the players' norms. Sammy and Riaz came under the scanner after the incident, and then the entire competition was postponed. Speaking of the same, Sammy reckoned that he had nothing to do with the tournament being suspended indefinitely.
Sammy also pointed out that no one from the Peshawar Zalmi squad had got infected. The former West Indies captain said that the entire team was very strict about the rules. Thus, it would be wrong to say that PSL 2021 was suspended due to Wahab and his actions. The 6th season of the Pakistan Super League will now be resuming in Abu Dhabi, and Sammy will soon be joining his team. The Wahab Riaz-led team is currently placed second in the team standings. They have won three out of the five games. After the conclusion of PSL, the Pakistan players are scheduled to leave for England for a white-ball series against the hosts.
