In a one-sided match, Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans in the final of PSL 2022. The two Pakistan Super League teams fought well to reach the final, but Qalandars were the dominant side in the final. Sultans were expected to have the upper hand as they only lost one match before this in the entire season.
The prize money for the winners, runner-ups, and other awardees has been revealed. Lahore Qalandars, the winners, were given close to INR 3.4 crores along with the PSL trophy. The runner-ups, Multan Sultans, were given approx INR 1.36 crores approx. The player of the tournament, Mohammad Rizwan, was given INR 12.7 lakhs. The leading run-scorer, leading wicket-taker, best fielder, best keeper, emerging player, best all-rounder, and best umpire all received cheques of INR 14.86 lakhs approx. The winner of the Spirit of Cricket Award was given to Multan and they received 14.86 lakhs.
Meanwhile, the final turned out to be a one-sided affair. Batting first, Lahore set a good total of 180. They had lost a few wickets early on as Asif Afridi and David Willey struck in the powerplay.
Mohammad Hafeez then took charge of the innings as he hit nine fours and one six in his score of 69 from 46 balls. He played at a strike rate of 150 and was the team's highest run-scorer. Harry Brooks also made a good contribution as he scored 41 in 22 balls at a strike rate of 186.
In the second innings, Sultans never looked in a good shape as they kept losing wickets. Khusdil Shah was their highest run-scorer with 32 in 23 balls. Skipper Shaheen Afridi was their star bowler as he took 3 wickets in the match. Hafeez, however, won the player of the match for his 69 runs and 2 wickets with the ball.
