India's Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara did not perform to the best of his abilities in the just-concluded World Test Championship. He is well-known for his remarkable patience and ability to play long innings. His performances have often bailed the Indian team out of trouble on several occasions. The Saurashtra-born batsman has everything a Test batsman needs. Thus, this is why he is often acclaimed as the 'modern Wall' of the game.

Veteran South African pacer Dale Steyn feels that Pujara has lost his ability to play on his backfoot and is missing out on many runs. Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed twice by Kyle Jamieson in the one-off Test. Steyn reckoned that Pujara would probably not have been removed by Jamieson's delivery if he was playing the way he used to play a couple of years back.

Cheteshwar Pujara needs to be a bit more proactive: Dale Steyn

Cheteshwar Pujara scored 8 balls off 54 deliveries in the first innings and 15 of 80 in the second. Team India failed to put up a decent score in either of the innings, which cost them big time in the end. Early on Reserve Day, Pujara nicked Kyle Jamieson to first slip and got dismissed. Seeing that, Dale Steyn stated that he wouldn't have expected from a batsman of Pujara's caliber. Steyn further added that Cheteshwar Pujara needs to be a bit more proactive because bowlers in Test format will definitely find a way of working him out. Cheteshwar Pujara had a great series against Australia Down Under earlier this year. However, since then, he has been struggling for big scores. Taking out his 73 against England in Chennai, the batsman hasn't scored a half-century in the last seven innings.

During the course of the two-year World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Cheteshwar Pujara has failed to score a century. He scored at an average of less than 30. The veteran will next be seen in action during India's forthcoming five-Test series against England. England is going to host India for five Tests at Trent Bridge, Lord's, Emerald Headingley, the Kia Oval, and Emirates Old Trafford. The first game of the series will start on August 4. Joe Root-led team lost the away series in India 1-3. They also suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Kiwis earlier this month.
