On 14 December 2022, team India kicked off their two-match Test series in Bangladesh in Chattogram. Recently, team India played a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh which they lost by a margin of 2-1. However, Rohit Sharma got an injury during the second ODI, and thus, he missed the first Test match of this series.

Therefore, KL Rahul got the opportunity to lead the team while Cheteshwar Pujara became the deputy. This series is going to be a crucial one for the Men in Blue in order to get qualified for the final of the World Test Championship. However, before the first Test, the Indian Cricket Board shared an official statement regarding all the changes in the Test squad for this match after all injury setbacks.

Cheteshwar Pujara scored 90 runs against Bangladesh in the first innings  

The official statement read: “India captain Rohit Sharma met with a specialist in Mumbai for his left thumb injury, which he sustained during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh. He has been advised of appropriate management for this injury and will not be available for the first Test against Bangladesh. The Indian Cricket Board Medical Team will take a call on his availability for the second and final Test at a later stage. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Abhimanyu Easwaran as his replacement for the first Test.”

Speaking of the match, KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first. But, India were struggling as they lost three wickets for 48 runs. Then, Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara steadied the ship for the Men in Blue. First, Pujara scored 50 runs off 125 balls while Iyer scored his fifty off 93 balls. However, both of them continued to show their class as they put up their 100-run partnership off 213 balls. Finally, Pujara lost his wicket after scoring 90 runs off 203 balls, including 11 fours.
