In the 19th match of the Hundred 2022, Northern Superchargers beat Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs to put two points on the board. David Wiese's all-rounded performance in the match ensured that Superchargers ended on the winning side. With this win, they have kept their hopes for qualification still alive.

Batting first, Superchargers did not have the best start as they lost their skipper Faf du Plessis (nine) cheaply. The South African batter has prolonged his poor form with the bat. However, Adam Lyth and Adam Hose took charge of the innings. The former was attacking the ball, while the latter anchored the innings.

Each scored a half-century in the match and added 37 runs in the partnership. Following the loss of Lyth (56) and a few more batters, Wiese took command and continued to attack the ball. He scored 34 runs in just 14 balls, while Hose remained unbeaten on 53 runs in 35 balls, helping their team to a total of 169/6 in the first innings.

Phoenix got off to a good start in the chase, with Will Smeed and Miles Hammond scoring 45 runs in the first 24 balls. However, a string of wickets put pressure back on them. The hosts lost five wickets in no time, with David Willey doing most of the damage. The Phoenix were reduced to 68/5 after 53 balls.

Miles Hammond and Chris Benjamin attempted to form a partnership but were only able to add 23 runs together. In the end, David Wiese's bowling did the job for the visitors as he picked up a three-wicket haul. Birmingham Phoenix was eventually restricted to 137/9 in 100 balls, handing Northern Superchargers a 32-run victory.

After the win, Northern Superchargers have kept their playoff hopes alive. They currently stand sixth with two wins in five games. On the other hand, Birmingham Phoenix stands in fourth place with three wins in five games. Both teams will look to win all of their remaining matches and make it to the playoffs.
