Indian badminton star PV Sindhu emerges triumphant in Singapore, defeating Wang Zhi Yi of China to win her first Singapore Open championship. Sindhu won the championship after defeating her opponent in three games, 21-9, 11-21, and 21-15. The Singapore Open 2022 is Sindhu's third championship of the 2022 season. She previously saw success in the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open BWF Super 300.

The two-time Olympic medalist dominated the opening game before falling short in the second. The match went to a final game, and Sindhu came back magnificently to win her first Super 500 championship in 2022.

Wang Zhi Yi kept fighting till the end, but Sindhu's early lead in the final game was critical to the latter's triumph. Sindhu advanced to the finals after defeating Japan's Saena Kawakami 21-15, 21-7 in a 32-minute semi-final match.

"Thanks to everyone out there who has been supportive. Singapore is a nice city, it is good to be here. It is always nice to win the finals after long. Getting this title today means a lot as it gives me a lot of confidence and will surely take me to another level," Sindhu expressed her joy on the championship," Sindhu expressed her joy after the win.

"The whole tournament has been good. This is just the start and I look forward to relaxing a bit before turning my attention to the CWG," she added.

Zhi Yi took the first points of the decider, but couldn't hold on to the advantage for long as Sindhu levelled the match at 3-all and never looked back. As she sped away with the lead, the Indian ace showcased a diversity of well-hit smashes and held on effectively to convert long rally points.

The Indian fans were completely behind Sindhu, with the shouts of 'Sindhu... Sindhu' and 'Bharat Matha Ki Jay' echoing around the Singapore indoor arena. She is the second Indian woman to win the Singapore Open, 12 years after Sinan Nehwal.
