Rahane and Rohit should show more commitment in 2nd Test: VVS Laxman

Legendary batsman VVS Laxman hopes Rahane and Rohit to show more commitment in the forthcoming match against England. Both the batsmen have failed to perform as India suffered an embarrassing 227-run defeat in the series-opener in Chennai. The hosts were out for a paltry 192 in their pursuit of a 420-run target in the second innings. Rohit returned with scores of 6 and 12 in both the innings whereas Rahane managed to score only one run. Their poor performance witnessed England romped off to their most significant victory on Indian soil. Laxman was disappointed and stated he would like to see both batsmen committed to saving or winning the next Test.

Rahane-Rohit

Legendary batsman VVS Laxman hopes Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma will show more commitment in the forthcoming match against England. Both batsmen have failed to perform as India suffered an embarrassing 227-run defeat in the series-opener in Chennai. The hosts were out for a paltry 192 in their pursuit of a 420-run target in the second innings. Rohit Sharma returned with scores of 6 and 12 in both the innings while Ajinkya Rahane managed to score only one run. Their poor performance allowed England to get their most significant victory on Indian soil.

Rahane was dismissed by Dom Bess in the first innings before being bowled by James Anderson for a duck in the second. Laxman further reckoned that Rahane's footwork was not right and he was not ready for the clash. Secondly, Sharma was removed by Jofra Archer in the first innings before being cleaned up by Jack Leach in the second.

Sharma will be disappointed with the way he got out against Archer: VVS Laxman

Laxman believes that Rohit Sharma must be disappointed with the way he got dismissed against Jofra Archer. A lot will be riding on both Indian batsmen in the second Test. India has not lost a Test series at home since 2012 when an England side led by Alastair Cook triumphed 2-1. Team India is currently on a 12-win run on home soil. The second Test match between will start from February 13 in Chennai.

Taking about the WTC, New Zealand has already qualified for the finals. The outcome of the India-England series will decide the other finalist of the championship. England will need to win by a brink of three Tests, while India needs a one-Test margin to seal their spot in the final.
