Jason Roy backed out of the Indian T20 League a few days ago to spend more time with his family. The Gujarat team had purchased the opener for a base price of 2 crores. Roy would have fitted in well with the team as he is an attacking opener and would have complimented Shubman Gill well.
It has now been understood that the Gujarat team will be signing Rahmanullah Gurbaz as the replacement to Jason Roy for the 2022 season. Hailing from Afghanistan, Gurbaz has been a good find for the Afghanistan team in recent times.
Recently, Gurbaz reposted stories of everyone congratulating him to make his ITL debut on his Instagram. This is evidence enough to understand the development of him being approached by the Gujarat team.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was in the talks recently as he helped Afghanistan from being whitewashed against Bangladesh. The Afghans had lost the previous two matches of the series and were playing to save their reputation. Chasing 193 in the second innings, Afghanistan had to make sure they do well. The opener, Gurbaz, took the responsibility. He stuck around and took calculated risks as he scored his century. He hit seven boundaries in the match and hit four over the boundary. Gurbaz ended with 106 in 110 balls at a strike rate of over 96.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat franchise is set to play their first match against another debut team Lucknow on the 28th of March. This will also be Hardik Pandya's first match as a captain.
