The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a strong 20-member squad for India’s tour of England. India will first play the WTC final on the 18th of June against New Zealand and then they will face the host in a five-test series. It has marked the return of players like all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and batsman Hanuma Vihari, who had to miss out on the four-Test series against England at home, due to their respective injuries. Continuing his downward trajectory since the Cricket World Cup in 2019, player Kuldeep Yadav was left out from the team.
The selection and non-selection of the left-arm spinner have been a hot topic since last year. He had been a regular member of the team before the 2019 cricket world cup. He was also one of the highest wickets taking bowlers during the period. Kuldeep has been the recipient of a Test call-up and has two 5-wickets records in the seven matches he has played for India. At present, he has lost his form and his place in the Indian team.
What is Dravid’s opinion on Kuldeep’s non-selection?
Rahul Dravid, the former Indian Skipper, also commented on Kuldeep Yadav’s snub while discussing India’s balanced squad for England tour. He opined that the team does seem balanced with a 20 member squad. Kuldeep Yadav would have merited from a selection in the team but he seems to have faded away over the last year. With the selection of players who has strong recent performance like Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar, it is very clear, the kind of balance wanted in the team.
Dravid further commented that with both R Ashwin and Jadeja being all-rounder they will add value to the batting side. Axar and Sundar are like for like replacement for the all-rounders. The direction the team wants to take is clear. The batting lineup has lengthened with all four finger spinners being able to bat.
Rahul Dravid believes, the makeup of the squad already tells us about the best eleven even before the team leaves for England.
Kuldeep Yadav has picked up 26 wickets at an average of 23.85 and has played 7 test Matches for the Indian Cricket team.
