Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Rahul Tripathi was penalised for violating Covid-19 lockdown norms. He was moving around in a car without a mask in Pune's Kondhwa area. A team of Pune Police was inspecting the Kondhwa area in order to take action against those violating lockdown norms imposed by the state government in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases. Police stated that the cricketer was asked to pay a fine of Rs 500. Rahul Tripathi paid the fine and was also issued a receipt.
The 31-year-old batsman is the son of an army colonel. He took up cricket as his passion when his father, who is a former state junior cricketer for Uttar Pradesh, was posted in Pune. Rahul Tripathi had made his IPL debut with the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in 2017. After that, the batsman played the next two seasons for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) before being traded to KKR in 2020. He was traded to KKR for ₹60 lakh.
