Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Liam Livingstone has opted out of the Indian Premier League due to bubble fatigue. The English cricketer flew back home on Monday. Liam Livingstone was bought by RR in the IPL 2021 mini-auction for his base price of Rs 75 lakh. The 27-year-old did not feature in any of the three games Rajasthan played in IPL 202. After the departure of star all-rounder Ben Stokes, Livingstone had the chances of replacing his teammate in the playing XI. However, the right-handed batsman opted to withdraw from the tournament and head back home.
Liam Livingstone impressed everyone in the Big Bash League 2020. The batsman played for the Perth Scorchers in the 2020-21 edition of the Big Bash League. He scored 426 runs in 14 matches which also included three fifties. Livingstone also played a brilliant knock in the third ODI against India in Pune. However, England ended up losing that match.
Rajasthan Royals suffered two defeats in its first three IPL games
The 27-year old was also a part of the Rajasthan Royals in 2019. He has opened the innings for them on multiple occasions. Livingstone managed to score 70 runs in four matches, maintaining a healthy strike rate of 145.83. Talking about Rajasthan’s performance in the 14th IPL season, they have lost two of their three games. Sanju Samson & Co. suffered a stunning collapse in their last game against the Chennai Super Kings and were defeated by 45 runs.
To tackle bubble fatigue and mental health issues, the England and Wales Cricket Board had managed the workload of their cricketers. Players who play all formats of the game were given the required break during the tours to Sri Lanka and India. This step had also drawn several criticisms from some former cricketers but despite of everything, ECB stuck to the protocols.
Rajasthan Royals have already suffered two defeats in its first three matches. They will now play against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mumbai on Thursday. The Jaipur-based franchise is already without the services of star all-rounder Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. They are yet to name a replacement for Stokes, who was ruled out of the tournament due to a finger injury. As far as Liam Livingstone is concerned, it is not yet clear whether the batsman will be available for his county, Lancashire, in the County Championships.
