Rajat Patidar became the talk of the town when he played two brilliant knocks in the playoffs of the Indian T20 League 2022. His century in the Eliminator against Lucknow helped Bangalore get across the line. However, his well-fought fifty in the second qualifier was not enough for the Faf du Plessis-led side to qualify for the final.
Nonetheless, the 28-year old's game was largely acclaimed. After Bangalore were knocked out of the tournament, Patidar took to Instagram to pen down a special note for his idol and teammate, Virat Kohli. "No feeling more special than learning from your idol. Grateful," he wrote in the caption.

The batter had a breakthrough season with the Bangalore team this time around. He starred in eight games for them, and scored 333 runs at an average of 55.5. He also had an impressive strike rate of 152.75. Patidar hit two half-centuries and a century in the innings. As for the two innings in the playoffs, he scored 112 runs in 54 balls in the eliminator against Lucknow, and an important 58 runs in 42 balls against Rajasthan in the second qualifier.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli did not have a good season in the tournament. In the 16 matches that he played, he scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73. His strike rate of 116 was not impressive either. Except for his half-century against Gujarat in the league stage, none of his other knocks were impactful for Bangalore throughout the tournament.
Patidar, with his half-century during the second qualifier against Rajasthan, was the lone warrior while batting. They set a target of 158 runs for Rajasthan to chase down. After that, it was a complete Jos Buttler show as he scored his fourth hundred of the season and helped his team get to a comfortable win by seven wickets. He scored 106 runs in 60 balls in his innings.
The men in pink will now play against Gujarat in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on the 29th of May.
