On 15 November 2022, all franchises of the Indian T20 League submitted their final list of retained and released players for the next season. The Kolkata franchise were no exception also. Before that, fans were worried that Andre Russell might get released or not by the franchise for the next Indian T20 League season. 

But, the franchise showed faith in the West Indies all-rounder once again for another season. Meanwhile, he did not play for the West Indies in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup in Australia. However, West Indies had a disappointing end to the tournament as they failed to qualify for the ‘Super 12’ stage.

Andre Russell last played for West Indies on 6 November 2021

On 18 November, Andre Russell made headlines as he shared a ‘Nude’ picture of himself in his Instagram story. However, he deleted the story as fans started to share that deleted story on their social media platforms. Fans went berserk after seeing such a shocking story from the star All-rounder. Andre Russell last played for his country on 6 November 2021 against Australia in Abu Dhabi.

He did not get featured in the 20-20 World Cup campaign for West Indies. Regarding that, West Indies chief selector Desmond Haynes said, “We had a meeting with Andre Russell earlier in the year. We’re still not convinced yet, he’s not performing as well as we would like to see him in the competition. I think in the situation with Andre Russell, we’ve just decided to move on, and look for someone who’s in form, and doing well in the T20 format.”

“I did not get any notice from Narine regarding his availability to play. There were conversations that the captain was having with Narine, and from all reports, it seemed that he was not interested,” Haynes said when he was asked about mystery spinner Sunil Narine. Sometimes we have to move on and appreciate it when people come to us and explain their position to us, and if we agree, we give them a chance.” Haynes concluded.
