Rashid Khan continued his excellent form in the Indian T20 League 2022 while playing for the Gujarat team. He played a massive role in helping the team lift their maiden title in their debut season. While he was always economical, he did not get many wickets initially. However, this quickly changed as he returned to getting wickets as the tournament progressed. He ended the season with 19 wickets at an economy of 6.6 in 16 games. He took 17 wickets or more in a single season for the sixth time in a row, dating back to his debut in the tournament in 2017.

There weren’t many batters who could pick the leg-spinner. However, the Afghan spinner has chosen the batter he found the most difficult to bowl to during the competition. Fortunately for him, it was his teammate from Gujarat, i.e.  Shubman Gill.

“So proud to be here with him and I think he is a very hard-working guy. Someone like him gives you lots of energy in the team and I think the way he played throughout the tournament, it was unbelievable. Pleased to have him around. He is the only guy I think…I was feeling like someone like him will be hard for me to bowl in the game but luckily I have in my own side,” Rashid said while speaking after the final game.

Shubman Gill scored 365 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50. He also hit the winning six of the tournament.

Meanwhile, after Gujarat won their first Indian T20 title on Sunday, mentor Gary Kirsten praised Hardik Pandya, and said that the title-winning skipper was modest and eager to improve as a leader throughout the tournament.

“He has been fantastic… He’s a high-profile player in India but he’s incredibly humble, wanting to learn as a leader and engage with his players which I think is really, really important. He’s tried to help the youngsters, he’s come in and played a different responsibility,” said Kirsten in a post-match presentation.
