India spinner Ravi Ashwin has responded to Gautam Gambhir's tweet questioning David Warner's spirit of the game. Gambhir came heavily on David Warner after the Australian opener smashed a six on a double-bounce delivery of Mohammad Hafeez in the semifinal of the 20-20 World Cup. During the eighth over of the innings, the ball slipped out of the off-spinner's hand and reached Warner in two bounce. The southpaw readied himself for a big slog and dispatched the ball for a huge six.

Gambhir was not amused by Warner’s action and questioned his spirit of the game. The former India cricketer took to Twitter to express his disappointment. He also tagged off-spinner Ravi Ashwin and asked for his views on the same.

“What an pathetic display of the spirit of the game by Warner! #shameful what say @Ashwinravi99 he wrote.

The spirit of the game is a delicate topic and always manages to grab eyeballs whenever a player disrupts it. Ashwin has also been under the firing line due to mankading, which many feel is against the spirit of the game.

Many fans and experts were not happy with Gambhir's tweet. Even Australia journalist responded to Gambhir by saying, "Bad take Gautam."

However, Ashwin later clarified that Gambhir was being sarcastic and was pointing out that if Warner's six hitting was justified then Ashwin's mankading was also fine.

"His point is that if this is right , that was right. If that was wrong , this is wrong too. Fair assessment? @plalor," wrote Ashwin

Speaking about the semifinal, Australia cruised to a five-wicket win over Pakistan to book a title clash with New Zealand. Chasing 177 for victory, Warner got the team off to a good start by scoring 49 runs. Pakistan managed to fight back by picking up wickets in the middle overs. A late flourish by Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis, however, got Australia over the line.
