The veteran Indian all-rounder and modern-day off-spin great Ravichandran Ashwin have once again lived up to his stature in the recently-concluded Nagpur Test against Australia. The 36-year-old scalped a total of eight wickets in the match including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. Notably, it is also the 31st five-wicket haul for Ashwin in his Test career.

Meanwhile, Ashwin was hailed by the Nagpur crowd with the ‘Anna Bhaiya’ chants after the conclusion of the match. But later on, the man himself took to Twitter to ask the crowd for a correction as both words ‘Anna’ and ‘Bhaiya’ stands similar to the meaning of ‘elder brother. The veteran of 457 Test wickets has also extended his gratitude to the crowd for such immense love.

“Someone at the stadium called me Anna Bhaiya today. Anna and Bhaiya are one and the same (big brother). I am extremely grateful for the love I receive but this one small correction would help (two laughing emojis with an emoji of folded hands,” reads the tweet posted by Ashwin from his official Twitter handle.

Here's a look at Ravichandran Ashwin’s tweet:

Talking about Ashwin’s performance in the match, he scalped three wickets in the first Australian innings by conceding only 42 runs and also completed his 450 Test wickets with the first wicket of Alex Carey in the first innings. Later on, in the second innings, Ashwin claimed 5 scalps by conceding just 37 runs in 12 overs and played an excellent role in India’s massive victory by an innings and 132 runs in the Test series opener against Australia.

Apart from bowling, Ashwin also scored 23 runs in the first innings as he was called to bat at number 3 at the end of day 1 in the role of night-watchman.

In this match, he has also become the fastest Indian to scalp 450 Test wickets and overall, the third bowler in international cricket. He is now also the second Indian bowler in the list of highest wicket-takers in the Test cricket after the former legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble.
