Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin might play a county cricket fixture before the start of the Test series against England. The Indian cricket team is set to play 5-match Test series against England, starting from August 4. Ashwin's chances of turning up for Surrey will ultimately depend on the timely arrival of his work visa. According to reports, Ravichandran Ashwin is anticipated to play in Surrey's next game against Somerset at The Oval, starting July 11.

India last won a series in England back in the year 2007

The 34-year-old has previously played for Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire. As of now, India has no tour matches scheduled before the Tests. The Indian cricket team is currently on a break after their defeat in the WTC final against New Zealand. Ravichandran Ashwin was the tournament's highest wicket-taker. He claimed 71 wickets from 14 Tests at an average of 20.33.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has appealed to the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to arrange for a practice match before the first Test gets underway. After the conclusion of the WTC, Virat Kohli said that his team wanted first-class games ahead of England tests, but they have not been given that. The upcoming five-Test series is going to be a thrilling encounter. The Indian cricket team will look to end their Test series drought in the UK. India last won a series in England back in the year 2007.

Meanwhile, young opening batsman Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the upcoming England Tests. It is known that Shubman Gill has either sustained a calf muscle injury or hamstring tear. It is still not clear how and when he picked up the injury. Incidentally, senior pacer Ishant Sharma had also suffered an injury to his bowling hand while stopping a ball during the WTC final at the Ageas Bowl. He had to get three stitches. However, the pacer is set to be fit in time for the upcoming England Tests.
