Ravichandran Ashwin Reveals Reasons Behind Chennai’s Decision To Retain Ravindra Jadeja For Indian T20 League 2023

On 15 November 2022, all the franchises of the Indian T20 League submitted their final list of retained and released players lists. However, ahead of this occasion, there were several reports that Chennai might look to release Ravindra Jadeja. Even, reports were suggesting that he can be traded with other players from other franchises.

So, Chennai fans were worried about the rumours of the departure of their beloved cricketer. But, Chennai put smiles back on their fans as they retained the star Indian all-rounder for the next season. Now, another former Chennai teammate, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the real reasons behind retaining the player for the next season.

Ravichandran Ashwin said that Chennai might have wanted to sell or trade him. Due to that, they can earn 16 crores. But how were they going to find a replacement for a player who was Indian? Second, how strong were they going to make that team if they traded him to them? Ashwin pointed out these two points as the main reasons behind retaining Jadeja. Since the last year of the Indian T20 League, reports were there that Ravindra Jadeja will look to leave the franchise.

Then, he deleted some posts and tweets related to Chennai. Such actions ignited sparks of his decision to leave the franchise ahead of the next season. After the Edgbaston Test match, Journalists asked Jadeja about this rumoured rift with Chennai.  Speaking at the conference, Jadeja said: "What happened, happened. Indian T20 League was not on my mind. Whenever you are playing for India, your entire focus needs to be on the Indian team.” 

Meanwhile, speaking to ANI, a Chennai official said that Jadeja’s social media activities were completely his own call. “See, this is a personal call by him. We are not aware of such kinds of incidents from our side. All OK. Nothing is wrong.” Now, fans will be relieved to see Jadeja in action again in the Chennai jersey in the upcoming season.
