Over the past 14 years, there are some players that we associate with a particular team in the Indian T20 League, and we can not imagine them playing for other teams. Rohit Sharma for Mumbai , Virat Kohli for Bangalore, and MS Dhoni for Chennai. Until 2016, the same could be said for Ravichandran Ashwin and Chennai. Ashwin was their main spinner and had a great run with them for a few years. But, in 2016, he moved to Pune Supergiants after Chennai was banned for two years. He never played for them again.
And now that he is available to buy in the mega auction, Ashwin has expressed his wish to play for the team that he made his debut for. Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the ten marquee players that are included in the first set of players for the auction.
In a conversation with the former auctioneer Richard Medley, Ashwin said, "I'm actually not too sure, but to be honest, a professional player going anywhere giving his best must be the ideal way to go about it. But yeah, I am 35 now, it will be nice to come back to where I started but they already have an off-spinner with them in Moeen Ali. So I don’t know how they gonna go about it, so let’s wait and watch."
Ashwin clarified that Chennai might not go for him in the auction as they already have an off-spinner, Moeen Ali. The 35-year old played with Chennai for 7 years and was a part of the squad that won the title twice in 2010 and 2011.
