India’s bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has gradually become a crucial part of the Indian cricket team. His dexterous left-arm spin has not only helped in broking partnerships but has also ensured that India does not suffer a violation for slow over-rate. Considering his fantastic fielding and constant improvement with the bat, Jadeja has become a priceless player for blue men in all three formats.

Team India was without the services of Jadeja for the first Test against Australia. However, in the Boxing Day Test, Jadeja was a part of India’s playing XI in place of Virat Kohli. His inclusion in the team marked the all-rounder’s 50th Test. This makes Jadeja the third Indian cricketer in the history to play 50 matches for India in all three formats. Earlier it was Kohli and MS Dhoni to achieve this milestone.

Jadeja’s batting performance was excellent for the last two years. Since 2016, the all-rounder has a batting average of 46.29 and a bowling average of 24.97. With an average difference of 21.32, he has been the best all-rounder in world cricket in the last three years. He is currently above Ben Stokes, Shakib Al Hasan and Jason Holder.

Jadeja played a great inning in the MCG Test. The 32-year-old picked up three wickets in the match and scored a half-century as well. This was his 15th Test half-century, but India will remember it as one of his finest since it gave them solidity in the middle order. Jadeja also added 121 runs with his captain Ajinkya Rahane to provide India with a lead of 131 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja’s stats and records

In 2009, the southpaw made his India debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka. This was also followed by his maiden T20I game two days later against the same opponent. It took more three years for him to make his test debut for India finally. Ever since his debut, the all-rounder has never looked back. To date, Jadeja has played 50 T20Is, 168 ODIs and 50 Tests for the Indian side and has scored 217, 2411 and 1926 runs respectively in the three-game formats.

Besides this, the left-arm spinner has picked up 216 wickets in Tests, 188 in ODIs and 29 in T20Is for India. Jadeja has also scored one century and 15 half-centuries for the Indian side in tests. He also has nine 5-wicket hauls in his name in the most extended format.
