Many athletes have had biopics made about them for their remarkable achievements in sports and for educating a generation about how to attain brilliance by overcoming all difficulties. Even a few cricketers have been honoured with on-screen biopics celebrating their lives and accomplishments. Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and, most recently, Mithali Raj are among those on this list.

Another cricketer will be the subject of a biopic. For a change, he is not an Indian, but a well-known cricketer from Pakistan, Shoaib Akhtar, who was noted for his express speed bowling and had his fair share of controversy during his playing days.

Akhtar has officially announced the release of his biopic, titled 'Rawalpindi Express: Running Against the Odds.' The veteran fast bowler confirmed the news on his official social media handles. The announcement confirmed the release date for the movie, November 16 2023.

"Beginning of this beautiful journey. Announcing the launch of my story, my life, my Biopic, “RAWALPINDI EXPRESS – Running against the odds” You’re in for a ride you’ve never taken before. First foreign film about a Pakistani Sportsman. Controversially yours, Shoaib Akhtar," he wrote.

Here is the announcement

Shoaib Akhtar was a terror for many batters throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, having flattened the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Gary Kirsten, and Brian Lara with his deadly deliveries. From 1997 through 2011, he was a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

However, recurrent injuries and on- and off-the-field scandals kept him from receiving his due at the top level. Meanwhile, his lightning-fast delivery of 161.3 kmph against England in a group match at Newlands during the 2003 World Cup remains the fastest recorded delivery in international cricket to date.

The Rawalpindi Express represented Pakistan in 46 Test matches and 163 ODI matches. While he took 178 wickets at an economy rate of 3.37, Akhtar truly stood out in ODI Cricket. He took 247 wickets in the 50-over format and bowled at an excellent economy rate of 4.76.
