Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has reached home safely after the postponement of the Indian Premier League. Virat Kohli was in the RCB bio-bubble at Ahmedabad with his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika. Unfortunately, due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the IPL bio-bubbles, the officials had to postpone IPL 2021. Talking about the RCB squad, there were no positive cases. Thus, Virat Kohli and a few other team members have left the bio bubble.
Virat Kohli-led RCB had moved to Ahmedabad after playing the first leg of the tournament in Chennai. They had also played a couple of games in Mumbai. However, on Monday, ahead of their match against Eoin Morgan-led KKR, the IPL confirmed that the game had been rescheduled after two players from the KKR camp tested positive for COVID-19. On Tuesday, the big news dropped as IPL's governing council announced the suspension of the tournament. The decision was taken when a couple of cases in different franchises, including Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals, were reported.
RCB's performance in the 14th IPL season
The Indian cricket team skipper will likely rest for a few days before the entire team departs for the United Kingdom to play the ICC World Test Championship Final against New Zealand. The final of the WTC is going to be played in a bio-secure bubble at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. The final, which was eventually supposed to take place in Lord's ground in London, was shifted to the Rose Bowl in Southampton owing to COVID-19 restrictions. It will be played from June 18-22, with 23 being a reserve day. New Zealand was the first side to make it to the ICC World Test Championship final. India then joined the Black Caps following their series win over England.
After the WTC final against New Zealand, the Indian cricket team will play five Tests against England before returning home for the ICC T20 World Cup. Presently, it seems the BCCI may shift the forthcoming T20 world cup to the United Arab Emirates. However, nothing has been officially announced yet. Talking about RCB's performance in the 14th IPL season, it looked that the team would finally end their title drought this year. RCB is one of the three IPL teams that have not yet grabbed the trophy. The team has registered five wins from seven matches. Virat Kohli and crew are placed third in the points table with 10 points.
