Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have signed star Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for the second half of the IPL 2021. He will replace Adam Zampa in the team. RCB have also roped in batter Tim David and pacer Dushmantha Chameera.

The IPL call-up is much deserved for the Lankan duo Hasaranga and Chameera, who impressed one and all during the recent limited-overs series against India. While the leg-spinner picked eight wickets in the T20Is and was named player of the series, the fast bowler showed enough intent to earn praise from Rahul Dravid.

On the other hand, Singapore cricketer Tim David is a T20 specialist and has played 49 matches, scoring 1171 runs. RCB had to rejig the squad due to the unavailability of two New Zealand players, Scott Kuggeleijn and Finn Allen. The duo pulled out due to team’s white-ball series against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Apart from these two players missing the UAE leg of IPL, Australian players Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa and, Daniel Sams too won’t take part in the remaining matches for RCB.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the franchise Simon Katich has also decided to step down from the position due to personal reasons. RCB Director of Cricket Operations, Mike Hesson will take over as the new head coach. The RCB Vice-President and Head Rajesh Menon expressed his gratitude to Katich and wished him success in his future endeavours.

“As the season resumes in the UAE, it’s going to be an exciting chapter ahead. Simon Katich has decided to step down as the Head Coach of RCB, we would like to thank Katich for his work during his time at Royal Challengers and wish him success in the future. In the interim, Mike Hesson will step in and take charge of the duties of the Head coach until the end of the current season, in addition to his existing role of Director of Cricket,” he said according to RCB’s official website.
