Team India began the 20-20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan on 23 October. The Men in Blue won that match by four wickets. So, India took on the Netherlands in Sydney on 27 October. So, Indian fans were expecting another good show from their players at the SCG in this mega tournament.
However, India did not disappoint their fans as they won the match by 56 runs. India batted first and Suryakumar Yadav played well along with in-form Virat Kohli. But, after India’s innings, Gautam Gambhir came up with a controversial statement pointed to Virat Kohli.
“Real hero is Suryakumar Yadav and not Virat Kohli” - Gautam Gambhir
After the completion of India’s innings, Gautam Gambhir said that the real hero is Suryakumar Yadav, not Virat Kohli. Yadav took the pressure off Kohli since he went to bat out in the middle. He said: “Real hero is Suryakumar Yadav and not Virat Kohli as he took the pressure off him.” Fans did not like that comment as he seemed to point at the former Indian skipper. Virat managed to hit two fifties in two matches in this World Cup.
Already, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have a brief history between them. So, the comment did not go well with the fans. Speaking about the match, Rohit Sharma scored 53 runs off 39 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. Then, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav developed a solid partnership of 95* runs.
Virat Kohli scored 62* runs off 44 balls, including three fours and two sixes. Along with him, Yadav scored 51* runs off 25 balls, at a strike rate of 204. He hit seven fours and one six throughout the innings. Thus, India scored 179 runs for only two wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Dutch batters were nowhere near that chase. They managed only 123 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Four Indian bowlers managed to take two wickets each in the match. Suryakumar Yadav managed to win the player of the match award for his blistering knock of 51* runs.
