Vishnu Solanki, a Ranji Trophy player from Baroda, has shown immense courage after losing his newborn daughter. He came back only a few days after his loss to play in the match against Chandigarh. He went on to score a century in the match.
Solanki was in Bhubaneswar for the match versus Bengal when the bad news arrived. He went back to Baroda to attend his daughter's funeral before returning to the squad for this match versus Chandigarh.
Upon his return, Solanki played well in conditions that favored the fast bowlers. Chandigarh was reduced to 168 in the first inning. When Solanki came out to bat on Day 2, he displayed amazing mental fortitude in completing his century in the final session. He was well supported by opener Jyotsnil Singh. The Baroda combination masterfully controlled the game's pace and dominated the Chandigarh bowling effort. On Day 3, he was out for 104, but half-centuries from Bhargav Bhatt and Atit Sheth helped Baroda get past the 500-run barrier.
It was Baroda Cricket Association CEO Shishir Hattangadi who broke the news to the world on Twitter. He called Solanki a real-life hero and an inspiration.
"Story of a Cricketer who lost his newborn daughter a few days ago. He attends the funeral and gets back to represent his team to get a hundred. His name may not make social media "likes", but for me #vishnoosolanki is a real-life hero. An inspiration," he wrote.
