According to the reports, Indian T20 league broadcaster, Disney Plus Hotstar, wants the tournament to start on March 26. Last month, it was reported that the tournament will start on March 27. The Board of Control for Cricket In India hasn't announced the schedule yet as they had said that they will review the COVID-19 situation in the country. At that time, the new variant of COVID19, Omicron had emerged and was infecting people quickly.
However, the infection has gone down in the same way and it is likely that the tournament can be staged in India. This week, it was reported that five venues across Maharashtra and Ahmedabad have been zeroed in to conduct the tournament. The league games are believed to be played in Maharashtra and the playoffs will be played in Ahmedabad. Another reason for the board not to announce the schedule is that they wanted to come to terms with the broadcasters about the start date of the 15th season.
Currently, the broadcaster is insisting on starting the tournament from March 26, while the board wants to start from the day after. The reason for the same is that starting the tournament on 26 will allow a double header on March 27, which is Sunday.
"We understand that a Saturday start helps the broadcaster to kick-start the league with a bang with three matches in the first weekend. A Sunday inauguration would not permit that. The BCCI and the broadcasters were in discussion over this and eventually it could be on March 26," a franchise official, in the know of the negotiations, has revealed to Cricbuzz.
However, the BCCI officials and the broadcaster haven't made any official comments. Meanwhile, the broadcasters have asked the commentators to be available from March 19 to June 7
