Veteran Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi will be seen donning the Quetta Gladiators jersey in the coming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). As per a report in Cricket Pakistan, Multan Sultans, Afridi's previous franchise, have traded him along with England batter James Vince to Quetta Gladiators for the next season.
Earlier, Afridi had expressed his wish to play for Quetta Gladiators in the seventh edition of the PSL. The upcoming season might well be the final tournament of Shahid Afridi. The all-rounder has struggled with injuries of late and at 44, he is not getting any younger.
“Maybe this ends up being my last PSL. I would like to play for Quetta Gladiators this season, provided Multan allows me to leave. If Nadeem Omar and Quetta’s owners want to have me, I would love to represent them,” Afridi was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Even, Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar wanted Afridi in the team for the seventh edition. “We are hopeful that Shahid Afridi will be part of Quetta Gladiators in HBL PSL 7. We will be really happy if that happens,” Omar told the Daily Express as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
“Afridi played a key part in the promotion of the Kashmir Premier League. Despite being unfit in the final, he fought hard and led his team to the title,” he added.
Afridi played 4 matches for Multan Sultans in the last season but failed to make an impact. Meanwhile, Vince played 5 games and scored 174 runs. Both players pulled out of the second leg of the tournament.
PSL 7 is set to get underway on January 27. The final of the showpiece event will be played on February 27. The tournament will be held in Karachi and Lahore.
