As per media reports, VVS Laxman has denied BCCI’s request of taking over as NCA head. With current NCA head Rahul Dravid set to become India coach, BCCI is keenly looking for someone who has made a significant contribution to Indian cricket to take over. Laxman is one of the legends of Indian cricket and was an apt candidate to replace Dravid. However, the veteran is not interested in taking up the role.
The reason for Laxman’s denial is not yet known but is speculated that workload management could be one. Laxman currently is the batting consultant of the Bengal domestic team and also serves as a mentor for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Taking up the role of NCA head will keep Laxman too occupied which is why he could have let go the offer.
Meanwhile, BCCI have invited the applications of the Indian senior men’s head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, and head sports science/medicine with National Academy (NCA). staff. While the news may be baffling given that Rahul Dravid has agreed to the role of head coach, they had to go through the process to make the appointments.
The development comes after India head coach Ravi Shastri and his allies, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar wished to part ways with the BCCI after the culmination of the T20 International Cup. Rahul Dravid is likely to take charge of the team before India’s home series against New Zealand.
