In a horrific piece of news for Pakistan just ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, in India, the star pacer Naseem Shah is likely to be ruled out of the entire World Cup. His shoulder injury has been revealed to be more series in comparison to the initial checks.

PCB is still looking hopeful but the intensity of Naseem’s injury somewhere makes it quite clear that the young pacer might miss the entire remaining part of this year.

“The PCB is expected to make an official decision once they have results from his secondary scans in a few days. He was replaced at the Asia Cup by Zaman Khan, while Mohammad Hasnain, another possible replacement, is currently also injured,” reads a report in ESPNcricinfo.

Naseem sustained this shoulder injury during Pakistan’s first second super-4 clash against the arch-rivals, India. It was also the match when Naseem’s teammate and another star pacer Haris Rauf was ruled out of the remaining part on the reserve day. However, Rauf’s injury is understood to be not very serious but Naseem’s injury has raised concerns in Pakistan.

Naseem and Rauf were replaced by Mohammad Wasim Jr. and debutant Zaman Khan in the match against India. However, Pakistan haven’t announced their squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 but it is going to be a big blow for them.

Speaking of the recent outings for Pakistan, they were knocked out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 after losing the virtual semi-final in their last super-4 match against Sri Lanka. The hosts, Sri Lanka won the nail-biting thriller by a very close margin of only 2 wickets and made it to the final of the tournament to lock horns with India.

Pakistan are also being considered as one of the favourites to win the ODI World Cup 2023. But this major blow has put their preparations in jeopardy.
