Ambati Rayudu, Chennai Super Kings' middle-order batter, sent out a sly tweet in response to commentator Sunil Gavaskar's statement on batters becoming impact players in the IPL 2023. Gavaskar made his remarks during the latest game between the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings, which the Men in Pink won by a score of 32 runs.
After a strong batting performance led by Yashasvi Jaiswal's 77 off 43 balls, the Royals amassed a massive total of 202 runs. In pursuit of this target, CSK made a terrible start and sent Ambati Rayudu as an impact player to improve their scoring rate. Unfortunately, the Hyderabad batter was dismissed after only two balls.
Gavaskar was upset with Rayudu and his continuous poor performance in IPL 2023 in response to this wicket. The 198 World Cup winner suggested that the batters coming in as impact players have struggled to get going since they haven't fielded early in the game. Gavaskar argued that an impact player batter lacks rhythm and fails to score runs.
Gavaskar said, "You got to field. You can't just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can't do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck."
Following these remarks, Ambati Rayudu took to Twitter and shared a post in which he addressed the criticism levelled at him. Rayudu pointed out in the tweet that ups and downs are a part of sports, but a good mentality assists in handling these difficult situations.
Rayudu’s tweet said, “In life and sport ups and downs are a constant part. We need to be positive and keeping working hard and things will turn around.. results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keeping smiling and enjoy the process.”
