England and Australia will be clashing against each other in the 73rd edition of the Ashes starting on June 16. However, before that, the Kangaroos are set to face India in the World Test Championship final (WTC) on June 7 at The Oval and will hope to get a win before heading toward the iconic Ashes series.
Meanwhile, England have named star allrounder Moeen Ali in their squad for the first two Ashes Tests, starting on Friday 16 June 2023 at Edgbaston. Interestingly, Moeen had given up on the international red-ball game nearly two years ago but agreed to return for the Australia series after fellow spin bowler Jack Leach was ruled out due to injury.
We reached out to Moeen Ali early this week: Rob Key
The managing director of England Men's Cricket, Rob Key, stated that they had approached Moeen earlier in the week and he is also thrilled to make a comeback to Test cricket after giving it some time to think. Key thinks Moeen's experience and all-around abilities will be helpful for England's Ashes campaign.
"We reached out to Mo (Moeen Ali) early this week about returning to Test cricket. Having had a couple of days to reflect, Mo is excited to join the squad and play Test cricket again. His vast experience, along with his all-round ability, will benefit our Ashes campaign. We wish Mo and the rest of the squad well for the Ashes campaign." said Rob Key, Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket.
Here is England's updated Ashes squad: Ben Stokes (c), James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Stuart Broad, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali.
