The legends once again spoke very highly of the aggressive batter. He also stated that Shaw is as talented as he was, if not more. Further on, Ponting said that he wants to ensure that the 22-year-old goes on to play more than 100 Tests for India.
“If I look at Prithvi’s play, he has got every bit as much talent as I had, if not more, and I want to be able to turn him into a player that plays over 100 Test matches for India and represents his country as much as possible,” Ricky Ponting said on the podcast of the Delhi-based franchise.
Thus, it will be exciting to see how he performs in this edition of the league. Shaw has has a superb start to the Indian T20 league 2022 as he scored two fifties in his last two games. In the meanwhile, Ponting also drew light on his time at the Mumbai camp. He spoke about how the likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya were young and inexperienced when he was with the five-time champions.
“If I look back through the teams that I’ve been around, when I took over the Mumbai Indians, Rohit was very young, Hardik Pandya hadn’t played, Krunal hadn’t played. A lot of the guys that I have coached there have gone on to play cricket for India, and that’s what I want to do here,” he added.
