Ricky Ponting slams Ollie Robinson for dragging his name following recent spat with Usman Khawaja

The first Test of the Ashes 2023 ended in a thrilling manner as Australia crossed the line and won the match by the barest of margins. Apart from the thrilling action of cricket on all five days of the Test match, this encounter between England and Australia also made it to the headlines for a controversy that became the nucleus of discussion on social media.

The Edgbaston Test attracted the headlines for a different kind of news after the verbal exchange and altercation between England speedster Ollie Robinson and the veteran Australian batter Usman Khawaja. It happened at two moments in the game, firstly when Robinson dismissed Khawaja in the first innings, second, when Khawaja gave it back to Robinson on the last day of the match.

Later on, Robinson found himself on the receiving end of a high criticism for his statement in which he dragged the former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting.

“We've all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussies do the same to us, and just because the shoe is on the other foot it's not received well,” said Robinson.

This statement from the English speedster didn’t go down well with Ricky Ponting and he didn’t take too long hitting back at Robinson. Ponting named it very ‘unusual’ that the England pacer somehow needed to mention him.

"As I said after Ollie Robinson said what he said, this England cricket team hasn't played against Australia and they'll find out pretty quickly what playing Ashes cricket and playing against a good Australian cricket team is all about," said Ponting in a podcast of cricket’s governing body.

“If he is sitting back thinking about me, then no wonder he bowled like the way that he did in that game if he's worried about what I did 15 years ago. He'll learn pretty quickly that if you're going to talk to Australian cricketers in an Ashes series, then you want to be able to back it up with your skills,” he added later.
