India took on Western Australia in a warmup game at WACA in Perth on Monday ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first, putting themselves in a challenging situation ahead of the tournament. This worked well for the Men in Blue, who defeated Western Australia by 13 runs after scoring 158 runs. Here are three concerns and three upsides for India as they prepare for the World Cup.
Concerns
1. Rishabh Pant's form- Rishabh Pant's place in the team has been a worry for a while now. The southpaw has not been able to do well in the shortest format of the game for a while now. On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik has emerged as a good contender in his place. Pant scored only nine runs on 17 balls in the warmup game.
2. Harshal Patel's economy- Harshal Patel has emerged as a quality death bowling option for the Indian team. However, he has been leaking runs in almost every match. He conceded over 50 runs in his spell in the warmup game. This is a big cause of worry for the Indian team.
3. Top Order's consistency- The Indian batters have had some good recent performances, but they have yet to be consistent. Rohit Sharma was the only player in the XI who is sure to be in the top three for the World Cup. He scored only three runs in the match. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli did not play the match.
Positives
1. Suryakumar Yadav's form- Suryakumar Yadav has impressed everyone with what he has been able to do with the bat recently. He continued his form in the Warmup game and scored a half-century in the first innings.
2. Arshdeep Singh's brilliance- Arshdeep Singh is another player who has impressed everyone of late. In the warmup game, he ended with the figures of 3/6 in his spell of three overs. He will look forward to doing well in the World Cup.
3. Bhuneshwar Kumar's return- India was concerned about Bhuvneshwar Kumar's form. He was giving up a lot of runs in the death overs and failing to get wickets in the middle overs. However, he has proved his worth in the warmup game with the figures of 2/26 in his spell.
